B2TheWorld: THE STORY OF OUR NAME

Five years into our journey of B2TheWorld, one of the most regular questions we get asked is, “What does the name B2TheWorld mean?” I love being able to answer this question, because it shares more of the heart behind who we are as a for-impact organization.

B2TheWorld comes from Jesus’s sermon on the mount, where Jesus tells his followers that they are “the salt of the earth” (Matthew 5:13) and that they are “the light of the world.” (Matthew 5:14).

He goes on to say, “Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand [and] it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:15-16).

As we were in the discerning stages of forming B2TheWorld, we knew our focus was going to be serving in some really challenging locations. Places that experienced war. We knew that “Being” salt and light in these places would be a monumental task, and yet it was something that Jesus told his earliest followers to be and to become.

So when we say B2TheWorld, we really mean, let’s Be Jesus to the World. Let’s Be the Salt of the earth and the Light of the World to countries that are impacted by war. And not only this, let’s focus on the children of these communities.

Jesus’s heart was bent towards many people that were often overlooked. In Mark 10:13-16, we see how he sees and values children.

13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.

So just like Jesus, through His Spirit and power, let us use our hands and feet to bless every child in every country recovering from war.

So when we say B2TheWorld, in addition to saying let’s Be the Salt and Light of Christ, we are also saying let’s be a blessing to the world in the ways Jesus taught us to be. Let’s bless the children of the world, and especially those in countries recovering from war.
